Gas Fireplace

The gas fireplace in our home is basically decorative. It has a glass screen and emits very little heat.
Does anyone have information (tips, contractors, etc.) on converting the fireplace so that the gas logs emit more heat?

Tax Increase to Pay for more deputies in Lancaster
Saturday, September 6th, 2008Currently, the Lancaster Police Department is assisting with increased security duties at the Lancaster County Courthouse and government buildings. There was a unanimous vote by County Council to increase taxes to pay for more sheriff’s deputies to guard court facilities. The amount of the tax increase was unspecified.
