Banish Those Winter Blues!

By Buzz | February 8, 2010

Banish Those Winter Blues! There is a flurry (not snow) of arts and culture events happening in February to get us out of the house. Check these out: Civil War Mustering Event (Feb. 20-21) and Back of the Big House (Feb. 6) both at the Historic Latta Plantation in Charlotte. For something a little more “upbeat”, plan to go to the Drum for Community (every Sat. in Feb.) for a time of storytelling, drumming and dancing. If you are looking for inspiration, the Friends of Arts at Queens University is showcasing the majesty and peace of landscapes seen in the works of Joann Sieburg-Baker on Feb. 26th (www.js-b.com). All of these events are in the Charlotte area, and they are either free or offer senior discounts.

Calling All Newcomers!

By Buzz | February 8, 2010

Calling All Newcomers! Our area has become a magnet for newcomers, and we all bring our own traditions, habits and assumptions – our own cultures. The combination of old and new enriches our area, but also creates some challenges. Beginning on February 14, the Levine Museum will be sharing with us how our region is dealing with this growing cultural diversity and change – the “Changing Places: From Black and White to Technicolor” will be an informative and thought-provoking exhibit. You will get to see examples of how “things were done before”.
